If you get chills when you listen to particularly emotive music, you might be more emotionally intelligent than someone who doesn't, according to some new research.

According to Dr. Amani El-Alayli, a professor of social psychology at Eastern Washington University, those tingles you feel on your arms and the resulting goosebumps are called frisson, a French word meaning 'aesthetic chills.'

Experiencing what has also been describerd as a 'skin orgasm' can mean you are more emotive than someone who has never experienced this.

At the department of social psychology at Eastern Washington University, study participants listened to five pieces of music and alerted lab assistants when they experienced frisson by pressing a button.

Research suggests that people with this characteristic also have more active imaginations, appreciate beauty and nature, and are often more reflective and emotional.

Listeners experience the chills as an emotional reaction they had towards the unexpected changes in the music, meaning they're really taking it in rather than just hearing it. The most moving music alters the listeners expectations in an almost aggressive way, with two thirds of the listeners sensing these emotions.

Reddit has an entire forum dedicated to frisson, where open individuals can share their favourite skin-tingling links, ranging from Lady Gaga and Coldplay to Shamanistic chants.

If you want to put yourself to the test, try out the following track from about the 16 minute mark (keep listening for at least a minute) and tell us what you experience:
