Another day, another man's attempt to cut an influential woman down to size.

Powerful women in politics have long been judged by their looks. But it's extra thrilling when they call bullsh*t on it as directly as MP Liz Kendall did when she told a Daily Mail reporter to 'f*ck off' during an interview in which he asked how much she weighs and where she shops.

As well as referring to the Labour leadership candidate, poverty campaigner and Member of Parliament as a ‘slinky brunette’, the article referenced other irrelevancies such as Kendall’s marital status and fitness habits, then went on to compare her body to that of the Duchess of Cambridge. (Because, the two women look so much alike? They don't. No that this even matters. )

Written by the Mail on Sunday’s political editor Simon Walters – himself a salt and pepper fox embracing his later-life curves – the article has rightfully been met with widespread derision – not least from Kendall herself. And now she’s let the world know she’s not impressed.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5, she had this to say in response:

“I just think it’s unbelievable that in the 21st century women still get asked such very, very different questions from men.

Can you imagine the Mail on Sunday asking the weight of the prime minister, George Osborne or any other leading politician?

I cannot wait for a world when women are judged the same as men and not by those kinds of questions.”

We can't either.
