Prince Harry appeared on Good Morning America yesterday and had some important, thoughtful things to say about mental health.

"The stigma surrounding it is a massive issue," he said. "I want to re-emphasize the point to people that [mental illness] is not a ticking time bomb."

As a former serviceman in the Army, the prince has witnessed first-hand some of the mental illnesses traumatic events can trigger. An estimated 20 percent of Iraq war veterans will experience post-traumatic stress disorder.

Globally, however, mental health difficulties also affect a high proportion of people. One in four of us will experience a mental health issue at some point in our lives, and the Prince thinks talking about it could be an important preventative step.

"Psychological illnesses can be fixed if sorted out early enough," he told Robin Roberts. "We've got to keep the issue at the forefront of people's minds. The simplest of things. Just talking about it makes all the difference."

By bringing it up on Good Morning America, the Prince is doing exactly that.
