As you know we got the opportunity to interview Lupita Nyong’o for the cover of our January issue. Now to celebrate the release of her new film Star Wars, we wanted to give you the chance to grill her too. After Tweeting your questions for Lupita @ us on Twitter, we selected the best and asked the Oscar winner.

Favourite Star Wars movie?

It’s actually A New Hope. I love the relationship between the two droids R2-D2 and C-3PO. There’s this moment where they’re in the desert and they go their separate ways after a bicker. And for me it was a moment where my heart ached for them to get back together and when they finally did I realised how much I was invested in the friendship those two droids had together.

How was your preparation for The Force Awakens different from other movies you’ve made?

This film was very much a collaboration with JJ Abrams, which was special because it’s motion capture and I'd never done anything like that. At the time when I was cast in the film, my character's role in the movie was still in flux. I went along with the flux, so there was a lot of experimentation and physicality and voices and accents and what have you, to the point that you see in the film. So learning how my movement translated into the movement of another being was really new. And I spent time working with a team, — it was a team of people that I worked with who made that happen.

What kinds of films would you like to make in the future?

I’m dying to make a comedy, I really want to make one. And I definitely want to kick some ass sometime soon.

So will we see Lupita the action hero sometime soon?

We shall see. Just kick some ass. [Laughs] However you translate that. But definitely I’m in the market to do a comedy.

What’s the best advice you could give to actor hopefuls.

I feel like what has made my career so fulfilling is that I’ve been in love with every stage of my life. So, be in love with yours.

What is the most valuable acting tip you’ve received?

The most valuable acting tip I've received is to listen.

What do you look for in a script?

I like it when there’s clues to who my character is in the script, but the clues are in images rather than in adjectives.

Favourite city you’ve been to on your Star Wars press tour?

[My birthplace] Mexico City. It felt familiar and very foreign at the same time.

How was filming the Jungle Book?

It was great. I was working with Jon Favreau and he talks real actor talk so it was fun to have that relationship and he’s one who speaks in images.

Favourite things to do to unwind after a long day on set?

I like to drink tea, listen to music and take long baths.
