Don’t be fooled by her sweet face, Taylor Swift is a shrewd businesswoman.

She’s got a series of hit albums (1989 has been in the top two of the US Billboard 200 for 12 weeks and in the UK top 10 album chart for 13), a sold-out world tour, and a combined social media following of nearly 146 MILLION (that’s more people than the population of Russia in 2013), but now Taylor is expanding her holdings by trademarking lyrics from 1989.

If TayTay is successful, expect to see all manner of goods adorned with ‘this sick beat’ or ‘nice to meet you, where you been?’ in a store near you soon.

Writing in the Wall Street Journal in July 2014, Taylor said: ‘music is art, and art is important and rare. Important, rare things are valuable. Valuable things should be paid for.’ This totally makes sense to us – she’s worked hard on her album, so now she doesn’t want people to steal her, frankly genius, lyrics and profit from them.

Go on, Taylor, let those haters hate and keep on showing us incredible things with that red lip classic thing that we like.
