This has been a huge week for Twitter. Not only is Jack Dorsey back at the helm of the company (seven years after being ousted) but they have also released one of the biggest updates to their product in years - Moments.

A fifth tab will appear in the bottom navigation and it’s filled with all the core news and stories you’ll want to hear about. Curated by small editorial teams from inside Twitter and key media partners, you’ll see collection views of the most popular and time critical stories.

Each moment shares hand picked tweets that tell stories around individual events - Paris Fashion Week, Halloween round-ups, the Rugby World Cup. They describe it as ‘catching a wave’. And the coolest thing about this is you can temporarily follow a Moment. Injected into your regular Feed will be key tweets about the topic, that is, until the Moment has passed.

The introduction of Moments comes at a time when everyone has been questioning what direction Twitter is headed in. It’s always been hard to pin-point exactly what it is Twitter does; status sharing, news discovery, friend connections. Moments appears to be a clear line in the sand, defining the direction of the business; a media company where you discover news.

For those of you that have never really ‘got’ it, Moments seems to be the perfect time to dive in and create your account. All the news, as it happens, curated perfectly. In time, it will even be curated perfectly for you.

Moments is currently available in the USA and will gradually be rolled out in other countries.
