Sasha Lane, the 19-year-old actress from Texas, was the breakout star of Cannes 2016, wowing spectators both on red carpet – in head to toe Louis Vuitton - and on screen.

The newcomer stars in British director Andrea Arnold's latest film, American Honey, which took home the prestigious Jury Prize.

Sasha plays Star, a runaway teenage girl who gets caught up with a travelling gang selling magazine subscriptions for a living and is thrown into a life of partying and law-bending.

Her character immediately falls for leader of the gang, played by Shia LaBeouf.

There were rumours linking the actors off screen too but it was Sasha's brother who got the call-up to be her date at Cannes, which makes us like her even more.

That, and she definitely won the Elle Jury Prize for best red carpet hair, fashioning her brunette dreads into Princess Leia-style buns.

She's also become BFF with her other American Honey co-star Riley Keough, Elvis Presley's granddaughter, who posted an Instagram picture of Sasha chilling out in their hotel room with the caption: 'My Angel, my Star, my Baby'.

Before Hollywood came calling Sasha worked as a hostess at a Mexican restaurant near her hometown in Texas and decided to give acting a go after talent scouts told her she had 'a face for movies'.

She's now been linked to the lead in a new YA project Hunting Lila, based on the books by Sarah Alderson.

It won't be long before we're seeing a lot more of Sasha Lane's 'face for movies'.
