Christmas parties are now in full flow and while you may be tempted to opt for the most sequinned dress in the store, this year shop smart and pick pieces that you will be able to wear throughout 2009 - well, there is a recession on after all. Keep to black with hints of colour, texture and pattern. Warehouse's playsuit will look just right now with these shoes from Dorothy Perkins, or in the summer with tan sandals. Miss Selfridge's black top is a perfect wardrobe staple, while Topshop's jacket has edge with the coloured studs, but isn't too bold to go out of fashion anytime soon.
