Red hair may get a bad rap in the UK, but in the US it has always been perceived as sexy and chic. Hopefully the latest charge of celebs turning their heads red will change our perception. Joining Ashlee Simpson and Rumer Willis, now Cheryl Cole and Peaches, have recently dyed their hair vibrant shades of red. And, actress Amy Adams has been doing it for years. Who’d have guessed she’s a natural blonde? But, like she says, ‘with red hair you’re suddenly quirky.’ Before you try it, heed some expert advice from Vidal Sassoon’s Colour Director Edward Darley: ‘Olive skins work better with darker, violet-based reds while a copper tone is suitable pink-toned skin. Vibrant reds look great with pale complexions. Red fades fast if your hair isn’t in great condition, so start with a good trim and two or three conditioning treatments before you take the plunge.’
