"Blow dry your hair with a round brush to make it smooth but with volume at the roots. Then create a low side parting and loosely brush hair into one side at the nape of the neck. It's always good to tie into a ponytail first with a clear band." explains Neil.
"Next make a three strand braid and tie off with another band. Pull out a few strands to soften the look and lift some hair out at the crown to give height."

It needs similar prep to Kate's, but this time the top is flatter and parted in the centre. Use Bumble and bumble Prep Spray, £14, layered with Bb Thickening Spray, £20.50, before blow drying" says Neil
"Thandie can take this centre parting look better as her face is more oval." he explains.
"To get this look the braid should be started a little higher up and off centre. This allows the braid to look thicker."

Use Bb Prep spray, layered with Bb Styling Creme, £18.50, to give hair some extra volume too.
"A fishtail is the easiest braid to do as it is only two strands not three. You get the hair into a ponytail and divide into two strands then you take a small strand of hair from the underneath of one side and cross it over the top to feed it to the other side. You then keep repeating this till you get to the end.
"Fearne's was then loosened to make the braid look thicker and to give it a cooler edge."
Neil's tip: don't worry about the braid being too perfect as you will loosen it anyway.

All her hair was blow dried, then with a low side parting swept around on the one side. The fishtail braid is just an alternative way to braid hair; again don't worry about making it too immaculate as it looks better loosened a little when finished anyway," explains Neil.

"To get the ultimate boho look like MK, put a simple three-strand braid on one side underneath. Again, not perfectly done, then tie with a clear band.
"This is an alternative way to wear your hair down without looking like you've tried too hard," says Neil.

"The hair feels like a day old blow dry. To create this look just refresh your locks by spraying hair with Bb Prep spray to reactivate any old products and then let it dry naturally; maybe blow dry the top for some root lift.
"The super loose braid feels very home made. Make sure to braid the hair loosely and without pulling too much hair into it that won't go in naturally. It almost looks like it hasn't been tied off either- the ultimate modern hippy look," explains Neil.
Plaits are big news for spring. But forget the 'milk maid' look that was the hairstyle of choice last summer, this year plaits are more grown-up and a lot cooler. The style du jour is the plait worn to one side, either in a fishtail or traditional braid. After that anything goes from pretty and girly like Kate to mussed-up and messy like Leona. We called on Neil Moodie, the Bumble & Bumble's stylist known in backstage beauty circles as a plait maestro, to show you how to get the looks right.
Before you start, here are Neil's top plait tips -
Don't be too meticulous about your braiding; loose and home made is best.
