Alexa’s textured waves worked well on the red carpet, but thanks to her easy-going style it’s a simple look to recreate at home. George Northwood, Alexa’s hairstylist, explains how.
“To achieve this look you need to apply mousse to your hair when it’s wet. I used Kerastase Volumactive Mousse, £14.60 on Alexa. Apply it to the roots, mid-lengths and ends. Rough dry your hair lifting at the root and scrunching to make it really messy.
Then blow dry the front sections of your hair forward to create that centre parting grown-out fringe look” explains George.
“The best way to create the wave is with tongs. I used Daniel Hersheson Waving Tongs, £85, on Alexa. Take random sections and tong loosely to create soft waves, make sure you pay particular attention to any areas which are less wavy. Finish with a light mist of hairspray, I recommend Shu Uemura fine mist hairspray.”

Team ELLE can’t get enough of Diane’s inventive hairstyles and this messy fishtail plait is no exception. We caught up with her hairstylist Adam Reed to find out how he did it...
“This look is so simple yet effective for a cute summer twist on the fishtail plait” says Adam.
“Start with slightly worn in hair and add texture with Shu Uemura Tasai Cream, £21.50 or L’Oreal Tec Ni Art Pli, £11.65. Alternatively, apply dry shampoo into the roots for a tousled effect.
“Next, split the hair into two sections at the back of the head straight down the middle, braid both sections from the side of the head down to the nape securing with snag free clear bands, then gather together the two braids and plait together into a fishtail braid. Fix in place with added shine using Shu Uemura Sheer Lacquer, £16.50 – it’s girlie but with a twist.”

Sienna Miller has been spotted on a few occasions recently with a half-ponytail hairstyle. It’s effortless, sexy and pretty all at once; plus Sienna has proved it’s a versatile look that can be worked as easily on the red carpet as it can off-duty. Hairstylist John D explains how to get-the-look…
"First prep damp hair with Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream, £21.85; apply a small amount on the palm of your hand, finger-combing it throughout the hair. I used it on Sienna to counteract the humidity in the air and prevent frizz.
Next, blow-dry your hair smooth using a flat bristle brush. You want to smooth out any natural wave, but leave a bit of volume at the root. Pull back the front part of your hair and fasten it with grips. I decided on a messy centre part for Sienna. Leave a bit of volume at the crown so it looks slightly messy, yet classically Bardot.
Finish with a hairspray which is strong enough to keep the style in place, but soft enough to make sure your hair looks natural."

Gwen’s MET Ball hairstyle was inspired by Grace Kelly and is the perfect inspiration for any special summer occasions. Celebrity Stylist Danilo, who created the look for Gwen shows you how to create it at home...
“Wash your hair and while it is still wet, spritz evenly with a heat protection spray ready for the blow-dry. Create volume by applying Pantene Pro-V Volume & Body Mousse, £2.99, to help thicken roots and to support the grand bouffant. Next, take 3cm wide sections of hair and blow-dry curling the hair under at the ends with a round brush to give a rounded finish. After blow-drying, pull your hair back, rolling it and pinning into the chignon shape. Use your fingers to pull out small pieces to form rows on the top of the hair so it’s not perfectly smooth.
To finish the look, gently apply an anti-frizz serum to combat any humidity, then mist hair all over with a Pantene Pro-V Volume & Body Hairspray, £2.99, to give your look staying power.”

Camilla’s hair is a different take on this season’s big plait trend. Rather than wearing it to the side, celebrity stylist Bertrand W pinned the plait at the back for a more chic finish. Here’s how to get the look…
“This hairstyle can be adapted to suit any texture of hair, but you do need shoulder-length hair at least” explains Bertrand.
“Prep damp hair with Fekkai’s Oceanique Spray, £16 (lookfantastic.com), then blow-dry your hair upside down for added volume at the roots. Once hair is dry take a big curling iron and create curls (remember to use a heat protector), after your hair is curled brush them out into waves.
“For the plait, loosely braid the hair from ear level down and secure with an elastic. Roll the braid upwards at the top and pin on either side. Now, take the end of the plait and twist it under and pin securely in place. Finish with a spritz of gloss spray.”
For a beachy look Bertrand W suggests “With some teasing of the waves, the style could be given more volume for a bigger and messier look.”

Naomi’s 1940s inspired hair is great for summer weddings. We spoke to hairstylist Ryan Trygstad who created the look to explain how to do-it-yourself.
“This look works on all hair shades, but it looks especially good on blondes. Naomi’s colourist Marie Robinson recommends Clairol Perfect 10 in 9G Runway Blonde. This style also works best on fine to medium hair and you need a side fringe to create the waves at the front”, explains Ryan.
“For the curls use a quarter inch curling iron to curl your hair all over. Then brush the curls until they are soft and bouncy.
To create the shape, smooth your hair on one side leaving the other side more loose and pull it all into a soft bun at the nape of your neck. You could add a vintage clip or comb to add detail on the sleeker side” adds Ryan.
