Winged eyeliner has been a red carpet staple for years but winged eye shadow is an eighties-influenced nod to old-style glamour that hasn’t been in the spotlight for ages. Our guess? Because it’s such a tricky look to pull off – get it wrong and you’re in black eye territory. Keep the look fresh and modern by applying your eyeliner first then start with the smallest amount of smoky eye shadow (paler slate greys work best), building it up – and out – little by little. Go very lightly in the inner corners – this is normally where make-up artists use lighter, illuminating products to make eyes bright – or avoid that area altogether and just focus on creating the perfect wing. Use a Q-tip soaked in eye make-up remover to tidy up smudges and create a neat line.
