Redmayne was just one of the award-winners to draw laughs and admiration on ELLEs starriest night.
designer Jonny Johansson broke into a Swedish folk song in thanks for his Contemporary Brand of the Year award. Following that, Nicholas Kirkwood said that Johansson had usurped his winners serenade.
claimed that every designer is afraid of fashion editors, yet he found ELLEs the most accessible. Michelle Williams accepted her award via pre-recorded message, still wearing her bespoke H&M gown from the BAFTA Awards.
accepted the NEXT Young Designer of the Year award and Jessica Chastain her NEXT Future Icon award with their characteristic smiles. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley gamely claimed she could barely believe that shed been awarded the Style Icon trophy.
Later in the evening, Cuba Gooding Junior challenged the room to resuscitate host Alexa Chungs drinking game. The rules: raise your glasses anytime Chung utters Elle, style or beautiful (at least his tirade-laced encouragement fell after the 9:00pm watershed).
thanked ELLE, Naomi Campbell and Lee McQueen for giving her a platform to create. At the end of the night, the Downton cast turned to Horlicks (or said they would) and Chung eased into slippers.
