After carving out a career in Hollywood, Benedict Cumberbatch is going back to treading the boards – swapping Sherlock for Shakespeare.

The Star Trek star will be tackling one of the theatre world's most challenging roles, taking on the part of Hamlet at London's Barbican Theatre for a reported twelve week run from August 2015.

Needless to say, we're anticipating Cumberbatch's return to the stage eagerly. He hasn't done theatre since starring in the Danny Boyle-directed Frankenstein alongside Jonny Lee Miller at the National Theatre in 2011.
