Skyfall premieres today and, just like the explosive set pieces and Daniel Craig’s charms, the Bond girls’ costumes – this year worn by Naomie Harris and French actress Bérénice Marlohe – are dazzling.

One particular outfit – a mesh and crystal-encrusted gown worn by Marlohe – took as much work to create as one of M’s famous gadgets. Award-winning costume designer Jany Temime described how she made the dress specifically for the character. ‘We wanted as small a waist as possible, and [at the neckline] we made it as naked as possible.'

Bérénice said of her costumes: ‘To create the character, the transformation is completed with the dress.’

Swarovski and Bond have enjoyed creative collaborations going back 35 years. But it's hard to see how they could top this mesh-panelled dress, with a pattern like swirly tattoos etched in crystals on the sheer back, arms, sides and skirt, giving a risqué, naked feel.

Or as Bérénice herself described it – ‘fatale’.
