Kristen Stewart wowed on the Cannes red carpet for the second time this week for the premiere of Cosmopolis, starring boyfriend Robert Pattinson. Dressed in a red Reem Acra gown with lace back detail and a plunging neckline, the actress arrived in good spirits with her On The Road co-star Tom Sturridge, Sienna Miller’s partner and Pattinson’s close friend.
Meanwhile, Stewart’s sharp-suited beau posed for photographs with Cosmopolis director David Cronenberg and co-stars Juliette Binoche, Sarah Gadon and Emily Hampshire before the film played to an enthusiastic audience including Bonnie Wright and Julianna Margulies.
A Cronenberg film is a smart choice for Pattinson, who seems ever keen to prove his versatility outside the Twilight series. The director’s dark, visceral and often surreal style proves a good fit for the actor, who plays a notorious businessman spending an eventful day cruising around a dystopian, futuristic New York in his limo. Cold, calculating and obsessive, his character is also something of a womaniser, hooking up with a string of ladies. While Pattinson refused to bare all for the role he does oblige with numerous topless scenes and steamy romps, often with a dark and comical twist. His slick look works perfectly for the lead role in this flawed but fascinating film.
Following the premiere, the cast and crew set off for the Carlton Cinema Club on the beach for a grand dinner with industry guests. Stewart and Pattinson laughed and joked together during the meal, setting the scene for a relaxed evening of music and champagne under the stars.
The pair certainly have plenty to celebrate, both making their mark on this year’s Cannes with edgy, sexy roles in distinctive films by acclaimed directors. Stewart has rocked the red carpet with more confidence than ever, smiling and enjoying photo calls, appearing to embrace her fame rather than shrinking from the limelight. Kristen and Rob, Cannes salutes you.
