In her new campaign for G-Star Raw, the beautiful and equally bright Lily Cole plays a glamorous game of chess alongside the world's number one chess player Magnus Carlsen which, far from making her nervous, was the very reason she chose to take the job.

The Cambridge graduate and model, who has a Double First degree under her belt and has campaigned for the likes of the Body Shop, the Brazilian Amazon and The North-Circular, has been something of a chess fanatic for some time. So much so that her thesis at university studied the work of artist, Gabriel Orozco who uses chess in his work.

'I was really interested when I heard the concept and the fact that it was with Magnus,' Cole told us of the campaign.

'I like to think that life is a game, a series of choices with a responsibility to make the decision to go left or right. A variety of options, in the beginning they can seem open-ended, but as you go down the path they get narrower.'

'There is always this dialogue between possibilities and choices. I like the playfulness and the seriousness of chess at the same time. It is a very serious game and at the same time a silly game, so at the end of the day the outcome really does not matter. I think that is important to put into the context of life too.'

She's philosophical, without a doubt. And it seems Magnus Carlsen has gained himself a supermodel fan too.

'Meeting Magnus was definitely one of the highlights of my day,' she added.

'I asked him for some chess tips and he gave me some. I'm trying to remember these tips for the future.'
