It’s simply not possible to talk about a Cher tour without focusing heavily on the outfits, or should we say costumes.

The singer is about to reunite with American fashion designer Bob Mackie on her upcoming tour, which is alleged to be her last.

Mackie is best known for creating costumes for Diana Ross, Liza Minnelli and Tina Turner. We’re sensing a theme here.

The pair met nearly fifty years ago and in true Cher style, it all began with an elaborate outfit. ‘It was 1967 and I was working on a loose thread on a beaded gown and Cher came over and said, “‘Oh, someday I’m going to have one of those,’” Mackie told WWD.com. ‘And we became friends after that.’

The word diva has become a derogatory term but as Mackie testifies, where Cher’s concerned, it’s a marker of her glamour and originality.

‘It’s not like dressing a regular person — it’s like dressing a crazy goddess. Sometimes she’s an Egyptian goddess and sometimes she’s a biker chic goddess.’

Mackie is expected to design 20 outfits for Cher on the new tour.

Which dramatic characters will she be channeling this time?

We can’t wait to find out.
