Officials in Moss’s hometown are preparing to decorate a new walking and cycle route—the Croydon Connect2—with a sculpture of a bench bearing the likenesses of three local characters.

The shortlist of potential honourees recognises comedian Ronnie Corbett, composer Samuel Coleridge Taylor and Star Wars actor Dave Prowse. But it bypasses Moss.

The decision hasn’t been all that popular with Croydon-ites, it seems. ‘She is by far the most famous face to ever come out of Croydon,’ a source told the Daily Star. ‘She should be an automatic choice.’

What’s behind the oversight? Moss’s point of origin has merited a mention in nearly every mini-bio of the model ever published. The fact of her birthplace glamorises a town that might otherwise draw attention more for its passport queues (Lunar House, scourge of all visa applicants) than its fashion credentials.

True, writers may invoke Moss’s Croydon roots as a gritty foil to a life that has grown about as starry as it gets, but Kate Moss loves Croydon too, you guys! Didn’t she draw attention to the area by returning—via helicopter—to shoot a Rimmel advert there last year? Doesn’t she refrain from looking down snootily on her birthplace from her adopted home in Northwest London?

Well, most of the time, she does. There was that one time that Moss described Croydon as ‘so rough.’ Remember? ‘My dad was in the pub the other day and somebody got shot,’ she said

If you don’t think Moss’s comments disqualify her from taking a place on the bench, vote for her as a write-in candidate on the official ballot here. Otherwise... step right up, Tasha Danvers, Beijing Olympics bronze medallist?
