Arguably the greatest Hollywood satire to date, David Cronenberg's dark, unforgiving comedy Maps To The Stars is delightfully disgusting. The story and dialogue are brutal, the humour scornful and the acting from every single player is magnificent.

The story weaves together the lives of oh-so-true Hollywood stereotypes: John Cusack plays a toe-curling A-list self-help guru whose 13 year-old actor son Benjie - a show-stealing performance by creepy newcomer Evan Bird - is fresh out of rehab and trying to revive his derailed career.

Robert Pattinson, as a limo-driving wannabe actor, is wholly convincing and Mia Wasikowska plays to type as the vulnerable, unbalanced, scarred new girl in town. But this is Julianne Moore's film, her portrayal of washed-up, needy, rmanipulative actress Havana is repulsive and mesmeric. Moore does things on screen few big stars would dare to - especially famously beautiful actresses.

It's hard to say what is more powerful... the characters, the performances or the gripping, sickly story. One thing is for sure - this film will stay with you. And change the way you watch films forever.
