Joss Whedon does Shakespeare?

Sounds like a risky move but this sparky comedy is entertaining stuff.

Shot in the director's Santa Monica mansion, it features a vibrant performance from Amy Acker as Beatrice, guest at a week-long wedding party.

While she is verbally sparring with her ex Benedick (Alexis Denisof), Don Pedro plots to bring them together and Don John schemes to ruin the wedding itself.
It takes a while to adjust to American actors spouting Shakespeare in a modern setting, but you'll be won over by the witty source script (thanks Shakespeare!) and talented cast of Whedon regulars including Fireflies' Nathan Fillion and The Avengers' Ashley Johnson.

Laugh-out-loud moments abound and the booze flows freely.

Some plot points do seem odd in a contemporary context, but this still delivers more laughs than many a rom com.
