Sky Ferreira’s debut album Night Time, My Time was originally set to be released in 2011. Despite taking an awful lot longer than anticipated to complete, the end result still sounds refreshingly rough around the edges.
The album is full of grungy undertones, crackling intros and 80s-style electro effects. Many of the tracks touch on Ferreira's experiences as a teenager in the modelling world and are modern, emotive and full of memorable lyrics.
Ain’t your right combines Ferreira’s stripped-back vocals with a fully developed pop chorus to great effect. Boys has a catchy riff full of teenage angst, whilst Love in Stereo and You’re not the one are also stand-out tracks thanks to their 80s electric guitars, strong intros and even the distant sound of a pinball machine.
All in all, it’s an exciting debut.
