We're always excited about a film involving Brit Marling and thriller, The East doesn't disappoint.
Re-teaming with the director of The Sound Of My Voice, Marling co-writes and stars as Sarah, a corporate spy who infiltrates an anarchist group known as The East, lead by the charismatic Benji (Alexander Skarsgård).
As they welcome her into their unconventional family in the woods, she warms to them and feels conflicted.
But their tactics including drugging the champagne at pharmaceutical company parties are hard to swallow.
It's a gripping undercover thriller with fascinating characters, twists and a brilliant cast.
Initially a bearded hippy, Benji scrubs up to look like the Alexander Skarsgård we know and love, while Juno's Ellen Page is excellent as hot-headed anarchist Izzy.
Throw in the wonderful Patricia Clarkson as Sarah's tough boss and The East is a rare thing: a sophisticated, entertaining and female-focused thriller.
