Winona Ryder is back on the big screen this week in new thriller The Iceman, playing the wife of notorious real-life hitman Richard Kuklinski (Michael Shannon).

With 47 films firmly under her belt, from cult classic Beetle Juice to , there is much to celebrate from the former ELLE cover girl’s varied career.

Ryder starred alongside Daniel-Day Lewis in the screen adaptation of Arthur Miller’s famous novel, earning critical praise for her portrayal of hysterical teenager Abigail Williams.

The scene-stealing cameo as an aging prima ballerina in Black Swan is chilling. Ryder felt so bad about being nasty to Natalie Portman in the scene that she reportedly sent a note of apology afterwards.

7. The Age of Innocence (1993)
Ryder began her affair with period pictures in the early nineties as May Welland in Martin Scorsese's The Age of Innocence, starring alongside Michelle Pfeiffer. Adapted from Edith Wharton's 1920 novel, the tightly corseted love story earned Ryder an Academy Award nomination.

6. Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)
Continuing her affinity for gothic characters, Ryder played Mina Murray in Francis Coppola’s vampire legend Bram Stoker’s Dracula. She more than holds her own playing opposite Gary Oldman, Keanu Reeves, and Anthony Hopkins.
