Emeli Sande is having quite a year. The singer released her debut album, sang at the ELLE Style Awards and serenaded the world from the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, all in 2012.

Sande has even more cause for celebration after tonight’s Q Awards. The singer beat out Adele, Dizzee Rascal and Florence Welch to take the Best Solo Artist prize at the annual celebration of musical achievement.

‘I’m very happy to win this,’ Sande said after the awards ceremony. ‘The best thing about what I do [is] doing something I love.’

Elsewhere, Blur took the award for Best Live Act, Muse won Best Act in the World Today and Plan B received the Best Track award for Ill Manors.
