It's that time again: the Emmys are back.

Nominations for the 65th annual award ceremony were announced yesterday afternoon by Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul and this year’s host, Neil Patrick Harris.

ELLE favourite Game of Thrones leads the way, following up its of Best TV Show win at this year’s ELLE Style Awards with an eye-watering 16 nominations.

The stunning Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO show, receives her first, much-deserved, nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Peter Dinklage gets his third nod for Outstanding Actor (equally rightly so, say the GoT diehards among us).

Elsewhere Downton Abbey flies the flag for Britain with a total of 12 nominations. The series is up for best drama, along with Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad and House of Cards.

Hugh Bonneville is up for best actor for his performance as Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, competing with fellow Brit Damian Lewis for Homeland. Bonneville's on-screen daughter, Michelle Dockery, is nominated for leading actress as Lady Mary Crawley.
The cast of Mad Men, which aired its sixth series earlier this year, have racked up seven major nominations between them. Breaking Bad has received 13 nominations.
Netflix has made history this year with mini-series House of Cards receiving nine nominations: the first time an online-only television show has been in the running for the TV’s top awards, earning Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright lead acting nominations.
Stars across America and around the world took to Twitter to share their reaction.
'The love this morning has been unreal. Thank you so much for the undying support for me and for Breaking Bad. Love u all. #Emmys,' said Aaron Paul. He followed up with a Tweet in the voice of his Breaking Bad character, Jesse Pinkman: 'Yeah Bitch!! Emmys!! #Emmys2013'.

The ceremony will take place on 22 September at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
