They made the Hot 50 list in the October issue of ELLE, and this week Stooshe have been announced as support performers for Jennifer Lopezs UK leg of her World Tour and also bagged their first MOBO award nomination. We talked to Alexandra Buggs to discover five facts about the bright new girl bands ahead of their headline London show tonight.
The girls love to perform live;
'Performing on stage if the best for us. [For tonights show] were playing new songs people have never heard before and weve never actually performed before so its like a whole new show. We love the chemistry we have on stage and the banter we have.'
They were shocked to find out they secured a support slot with Jennifer Lopez ;
'When we found out we screamed. We want to have longevity and that is what she has. She has reinvented herself and she knows how to put on a show. I think Im more excited about watching her than performing with her. But its amazing news. Its great.'
and were lost for words with their MOBO nomination;
'We didnt expect it and we never actually thought about it but on our way to the [nomination] party people were like you might be nominated! and we were like, no, what would we be nominated for? And when we were nominated we were silent! Last year we went and had just been signed and no one knew who we were or asked us questions on the red carpet and now weve been nominated? It just shows how much has happened over the last year and its nice to be recognised for that.'
They have a wide range of inspirations;
'I grew up with Motown, because my mum loved Motwon. And then when I met Courtney [Rumbold] she loved Motown so we bonded over that Diana Ross and The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations. And then Karis [Anderson] loves rap so she likes young divas like Lil Kim which is where we get our rapping inspiration from. But everyone, Lauryn Hill, The Spice Girls, TLC everyone!'
They are flying the flag for girl power;
'When The Spice Girls were out they were all about girl power and having fun. I think we take it to another level in that embrace our individuality and think girls shouldnt conform to a certain way or look or what is perceived to be beautiful. Be what inspires you and have fun doing it.'

Stooshe perform to a sold out crowd at Londons Bush Hall tonight, Wednesday 19 September. Their debut album is released in November.
