has teamed up with Sports Relief and Sainsburys to design a special shopping bag thats as sturdy as it is stylish (hurrah!). Plus, at £6 a pop youd be mad to miss out. Heck, buy both colourways who doesn't love a handy little shopper
or two? We caught up with the designer to find out more about the collaboration.
Tell us about the bag
The illustrations are based on drawings Id been doing of people I see in airports, in Claridge's or in meetings characters from all over. I wanted something that would be very bold and recognisable as Giles, and that incorporated my love of graphics and the Deacon colours. I also wanted the bag to be more than a shopper, I wanted it to be something that you could put your gym kit in or use as an overnight bag with a zip on top.
What will you be keeping in yours?
My padlock for my gym locker, my notebook with all my ideas, my Smythson pencil case and every single colour of Sharpie pen. Some Santa Maria Novella pot pourri too a nice smell in the bag. It would also be good to have the book of all of Andy Warhols illustrations to inspire some drawings! The ones he did before he was famous in the late 1950s of shoes and people are really gorgeous.
Were you good at sports at school?
I was quite sporty, I suppose. I used to do it competitively. I didnt like rugby but I used to do a lot of cross-country running and horse-riding. Now I cycle. Its the best way for me to get around town.
Whats next for you?
Work-wise, theres a small thing called The Collection coming up and were launching an e-commerce site in May. Were doing lots of specific things to put on that, which is good fun. On another note, Im also really looking forward to seeing Baileys Stardust exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery.
The bags will be available in 548 Sainsburys stores nationwide from 15 February. At least £1.50 from the sale of each bag goes to Sports Relief.
