has teamed up with Sports Relief and Sainsbury’s to design a special shopping bag that’s as sturdy as it is stylish (hurrah!). Plus, at £6 a pop you’d be mad to miss out. Heck, buy both colourways – who doesn't love a handy little shopper… or two? We caught up with the designer to find out more about the collaboration.
Tell us about the bag…
The illustrations are based on drawings I’d been doing of people I see in airports, in Claridge's or in meetings – characters from all over. I wanted something that would be very bold and recognisable as Giles, and that incorporated my love of graphics and the ‘Deacon’ colours. I also wanted the bag to be more than a shopper, I wanted it to be something that you could put your gym kit in or use as an overnight bag with a zip on top.
What will you be keeping in yours?
My padlock for my gym locker, my notebook with all my ideas, my Smythson pencil case and every single colour of Sharpie pen. Some Santa Maria Novella pot pourri too – a nice smell in the bag. It would also be good to have the book of all of Andy Warhol’s illustrations to inspire some drawings! The ones he did before he was famous in the late 1950s of shoes and people are really gorgeous.
Were you good at sports at school?
I was quite sporty, I suppose. I used to do it competitively. I didn’t like rugby but I used to do a lot of cross-country running and horse-riding. Now I cycle. It’s the best way for me to get around town.
What’s next for you?
Work-wise, there’s a small thing called ‘The Collection’ coming up and we’re launching an e-commerce site in May. We’re doing lots of specific things to put on that, which is good fun. On another note, I’m also really looking forward to seeing Bailey’s Stardust exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery.

The bags will be available in 548 Sainsbury’s stores nationwide from 15 February. At least £1.50 from the sale of each bag goes to Sports Relief.
