The singer alighted from a Harrods-green double-decker bus flanked by two uniformed attendants carrying Harrods shopping bags. Spurning the green theme, Welch chose a charcoal dress and floor-length black and silver cape from Chanel .
Welch treated the assembled sale-goers to acoustic renditions of “Shake it Out” and “What the Water Gave Me” before addressing the crowd.
‘We are the first band ever to perform at the Harrods sale, and we are very honoured to announce the sale open,’ she said.
In the past, celebrities including Lily Allen , Eva Longoria and Gemma Arterton have opened Harrods sales.
