Since the tear-jerking final episode way back in May 2004 (yes, it was almost a decade ago), there has been a Friends-shaped hole in our lives. Rumours of reunions and movie deals have been rife, but have as yet been unconfirmed.

But yesterday, Ellen DeGeneres gave a taster of what a comeback might look like with a comedy sketch fronted by Jennifer Anniston and Matthew Perry. Aniston arrived unannounced at the home of her old castmate, seeking advice on co-hosting with Ellen. Ex-Friends star Courteney Cox also appeared in the spoof alongside DeGeneres’ wife, Portia de Rossi.

While David Schwimmer, Matt Le Blanc and Lisa Kudrow were absent from the sketch, the wit and camaraderie that made the show such a hit were all still there. As for a real reunion? ‘We all were very nostalgic and miss working together and love each other,’ Anniston told DeGeneres later on the show. ‘It's a great thing to get to go back to your family like that, and also know that people will love it.’ Yet most grist to the rumor mill…
