Rocking a Meadham Kirchhoff-inspired dress, perspex bomber and Terry de Havilland boots, Gemma Cairney's got festival style nailed. And she's a girl who should know - not only has she styled Florence Welch and been a festival regular for years, we also featured the young DJ in ELLE's rising talent shoot (where she hand-picked Danielle Scutt & Charlotte Olympia to wear).
When ELLE caught up with Gemma backstage at Radio 1's biggest ever free festival in London's Hackney, she'd been up since 5am, presented a radio show, and was just about to do back-to-back interviews with David Guetta & Professor Green. But her glittery eyeshadow & bubbly attitude were perfectly in place, and she's still on a high from watching Jay-Z's unforgettable set, standing backstage alongside Kanye West & Rihanna. Lucky girl, hey?
On the bill today, Gemma's ones-to-watch are Florence and the Machine, Azealia Banks, who is "going to tear the 1Extra stage apart", and, of course, Rihanna - for Gemma, the festival's best dressed. "I love a girl who can rock trainers & still look sexy".
Yesterday's highlights came in the form of Emeli Sande who was "so sophisticated and considered", and Jessie Ware on the In New Music We Trust stage. But her personal favourite has to be Nicky Minaj teaching her cockney rhyming slang "James Blunt is all I'm going to say...". But does it beat Beth Ditto stripping off & kissing Gemma's hand at Bestival? 'It's a tough call.'
After tonight's acts close the show, Gemma is off to a friend's '1,000 nights of Rihanna' party before heading to a secret after-party where Azealia Banks is performing... Can we come?
