When BBC Radio One presenter Gemma Cairney was shipped off to Australia to be on the panel for I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here’s spin-off show, we wanted to know what she was packing. How does one plan a wardrobe for sun, rain, tucker trials and tarantulas? Find the answers and the backstage gossip below...
How do you dress for the jungle?
I figured best to keep it bright and impractically sparkly. The lusciousness of the big green jungle can be pretty much matched with anything so I took a shoe box full of accessories and though I didn't wear them all on camera, I embraced the title of 'Elton John' behind the scenes for turning up each morning in different gigantic frames.
Set the scene backstage...
Hurried production staff scurrying about in order to put out the best show possible. It's a big operation, there are security, and camera men dressed in camo to blend in down in camp. Where the panel show is filmed is in a makeshift studio far, far above in the tops of the trees. This is where the infamous wobbly bridges are. The I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here Now team are picked up from their accommodation to go to work at midnight every night. They work their nuts off.
How scared are you of spiders?
I'm actually alright with spiders, but not the type that spray venom at you in order TO KILL YOU.
Who's the biggest diva?
In camp? There just isn't room for diva behaviour. The jungle is big and there are excruciating trials in order to eat so the need for food wipes out diva-ness pretty quickly. It's probably the only programme on the telly you'll see people without a even scrap of make up.
What are Ant and Dec like?
Everything you'd expect them to be. The most charming pair on the planet.
Best bit of backstage gossip?
Erm, well it's pretty obvious how much fake tan Swashy [presenter of Get Me Out of Here Now Joe Swash] uses right?
How hostile to hair is the jungle environment?
Not that bad, my wild 'fro likes the outdoors and adventure!
Gemma Cairney took her jungle snaps using her Nikon COOLPIX S800c connected camera.
