Eighties classic Ghostbusters is about to be injected with a ginormous dose of girl power.

Paul Feig - known for his work as director of Bridesmaids and The Heat – will be updating the 1984 blockbuster, which originally starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver, with an all-female cast.

To celebrate this giant leap for ladykind, we've been debating which of Hollywood's leading ladies we'd like to see don a boiler suit and combat the ghouls of New York.

Look who made the shortlist (as chosen by Team ELLE)...

She's funny and clever, a real leading lady - we'd love to see her play Bill Murray's character, Dr. Venkman.

Dr. Raymond Stantz - played by Dan Aykroyd - would have nothing on the woman who wrote, co-produced and starred in all-time favourite, Mean Girls.

Mindy Kaling

Her comical one-liners would ensure some real golden moments on screen, plus she'd look fierce in a boiler suit and glasses. Move over Egon, make way for Dr. Mindy Spengler.

We think Rebel would completely rock at being Ghostbusters secretary, Janine Melnitz. She'd create a whole new meaning to the word sassy - and we think her reactions to paranormal call-outs would be hilarious.
