Have we mentioned recently how much we love Jane Austen?
Well, our devotion for the woman who created the most perfect man in the world (Mr Darcy obvs, and no, we dont care that hes fictional) has gone into overdrive today as its been revealed that the author is to be on the new £10 banknote.
The decision follows a high-profile campaign to ensure a woman remained on an English banknote after the plan to replace social reformer Elizabeth Fry with Sir Winston Churchill on the £5 note was revealed earlier this year.
Had it been realised, no women would have been represented for their contributions to the countrys history on the British banknote, apart from the Queen. Bad times.
But now Mark Carney, the new Governor of the Bank of England, has said, 'Jane Austen certainly merits a place in the select group of historical figures to appear on our banknotes. Her novels have an enduring and universal appeal and she is recognised as one of the greatest writers in English literature.' Good times!
Well have to wait until 2017 to see Jane take her place on the note, when shell kick the current face of the tenner, Charles Darwin, to the curb.
Were also loving the news that the new note will include the quote from Pride and Prejudice: I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! We fully agree.
