According to James Corden Begin Again is a film, ‘that just wouldn’t work without music’ – and ELLE has to agree.

It might be her on-screen singing debut but Keira Knightley (with accompaniment from co-stars Mark Ruffalo and James Corden) is an unexpected delight in this musical love letter to New York City.

We caught up with ELLE cover star Keira to find out whether we can expect to hear any more from Hollywood’s newest songbird...

How did you find singing for the first time on screen?

Terrifying. But I’ve done it now. Check. Tick.

Did you get any singing support from your husband, James [Righton, of The Klaxons]?

No – he just sort of went, ‘oh, you’ll be fine don’t worry about it,’ and that was it. Thanks, love!

I mean, it could have been worse – he could have said, ‘no, don’t do that!’

So you’ve ruled out a singing career?

Absolutely.

OK then – but what’s your karaoke song?

I hate karaoke. I’m the one sitting in the corner just going ‘why am I here, why am I here?’, never drunk enough.

Begin Again is in cinemas 11 June.
