Léa Seydoux has long been on ELLEs star style radar. Now, the French actress is proving her star credentials on-screen, too: her film Blue Is The Warmest Colour was awarded the Palme dOr Award at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend.
Naturally, Seydoux rose the occasion in a custom-made monochrome Maxime Simoens gown, which was embellished with Swarovski crystals, while her co-star Adèle Exarchopoulos who plays Seydouxs lesbian lover in the Abdellatif Kechich-directed film opted for ethereal ruffles as they collected their trophy on the Riviera.
Its rare for the Palme dOr to honour actresses; traditionally, its just the director who gets the glory (and indeed, Bérénice Bejo picked up this years award for Best Actress for The Past).
But Seydoux and Exarchopoulos so impressed this years Cannes jury that they made an exception in naming them both in the award.
Commented jury president Steven Spielberg: 'It was an obvious conclusion that without Léa and Adèle, the synergy could not have happened. If the casting had been even slightly different, if anything had been a little left of centre, it wouldn't have worked. It was the perfect choice from a sensitive film-maker.'
