The singer quit her music career earlier this year to focus on her new fashion venture with her sister Sarah Owen. Now all of the duo's hard work has paid off and the store is set to open its doors tomorrow.
Last night the sisters invited some of their most fashionable friends to sip Piper Heidsieck champagne and check out their handiwork. We were there to get a first look inside the shop - and to catch up with Lily and Sarah.
So why did they decide to open a vintage store in the first place? ‘Well a) we love vintage and b) we're not clothing designers. It's as simple as that really,’ said Lily. ‘And it's a way for us to put our own style and stamp on things because we do the buying, so ultimately we have complete control over what's here. I think we're both pretty confident that we've got good taste and we're going to buy stuff that people are going to love.’
The freshly painted shop is filled with rails of beautiful vintage finds that are available to buy, or hire for 25% of the on sale price. And that’s not all – downstairs there’s a members area featuring the new PlayStation Move, a Grey Goose bar serving specially designed cocktails and the wittily named Hairway To Heaven blow-dry bar - it’s a ‘one stop shop for a girl getting ready for a night out.’
The name of the store comes from the title of an old novel that Lily and Sarah’s mum found. ‘It's a great character as well,’ says Lily. ‘She's very elusive and that's the whole fun of it, that it's about dressing up and hiding behind a dress ultimately.’
Lucy In Disguise opens at 10 Kings Street, WC2, on Saturday 18 September.
