Last week we urged you to #binyourbra for breast cancer research. Now, we suggest you throw out the rest of your clothes too. Well, maybe just the unworn, unwanted, unloved ones. Winter is coming and we don’t want you to be cold…
M&S and Oxfam’s Shwopping initiative are encouraging you to be part of its One Day Wardrobe Clear Out on Thursday 3 October – and ELLE’s on board.
‘But what on earth is Shwopping?’ We hear you cry. It’s M&S’s clothes recycling scheme - launched by Plan A ambassador Joanna Lumley - where customers can donate any item of clothing of any brand in-store to be re-used or resold by Oxfam. Shwoppers will receive a £5 money-off voucher when they spend £35 or more on fashion - all the more incentive to have a clear out for a good cause.
The charity-retail partners have also conducted a fashion study which reveals that 25% of us hoard fashion disasters to use as fancy dress and 38% of Brits admit to only wearing half the clothing in their wardrobes. Honestly? Sounds about right.
