What were you doing when you were 16? Changing the world? No, us neither.

So join us in sparing some good wishes today for a girl who is.

Malala, the student who became an icon of hope around the world when she survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban for campaigning for her right to be educated in Pakistan, turns 16 today.

And, far from taking her foot off the gas, she’s preparing to take to the UN floor with more than 3,500,000 of our voices behind her and tell the world about her fight for education for every girl and boy.

‘It's been a long road, but today the bravest girl we know will spend her birthday fighting for others,’ says her charity, A World At School. ‘So let's show her how important her strength and courage are to all of us.’

Send your Many Happy Returns to Malala here – we have. If anyone deserves them, it's her.
