As tributes continue to flood in for Baroness Thatcher, who died aged 87 from a stroke yesterday, details about her funeral are being confirmed.
In plans said to have been agreed with in talks with government officials more than five years ago, Britains first and only female Prime Minister will be afforded a ceremonial funeral with full military honours. It is to take place next Wednesday, 17 April 2013.
The evening before her funeral, her coffin will rest in the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft in the Palace of Westminster. The following day, it will be taken by a procession to St Pauls for the ceremony, and a private family event will take place in Mortlake, South West London, as she is cremated.
While The Queen doesnt usually attend non-royal ceremonial funerals, its understood she may make an exception in this instance.
David Cameron led the tributes to his historic predecessor in office, saying, It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Lady Thatcher. We have lost a great leader, a great prime minister and a great Briton.
Its now been confirmed that Baroness Thatcher died at 11.28am yesterday in The Ritz Hotel London, peacefully in bed while reading. Her body was taken from her suite at around 12.20am this morning to an undisclosed location by police escort.
