Something wicked this way comes. And when we say wicked, we mean absolutely amazing...

ELLE-fave Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are set to star in a film adaptation of Shakespeare's infamous tragedy, Macbeth. The pair will play Macbeth and Lady Macbeth respectively, and although no date has been set for the film's release, the stills alone have stirred the ELLE office into an excited frenzy.

Traditionally, the dark tragedy centres on General Macbeth - who, when prophesied to be the future King of Scotland - is manipulated and spurred on to commit murder by his power-hungry wife, Lady Macbeth. Much of the play also focuses on the psychological unraveling and overburdening guilt of the couple after the murder.

Taking into consideration that the film is directed by Justin Kurzel - whose previous work includes the disturbing crime/horror, Snowtown - Macbeth is likely to be just as bleak and grim.

One poster in particular sees Fassbender stood menacingly in a battlefield, slathered in face paint and wielding two swords.

We'll be watching this space, very closely indeed...

The film is expected to be released in 2015.
