Hit series New Girl has always been towards the top of our TV picks: it’s got the girl (Zooey Deschanel), the laughs and the plot.

With this in mind, it’s probably safe to say that we don’t need another reason to tune in. However, we’ve just got wind of some news about the US comedy and it’s pretty epic: pop legend Prince is set to make his debut appearance on the show during Super Bowl season.

The self-confessed addict (he contacted Zooey Deschanel directly about the cameo) is confirmed to be appearing on the Super Bowl episode, ‘Party Time’.

When asked about Prince’s role in the show, executive producer Dave Finkel explained: 'He said, "I want to be involved in the show in a real way and I want to help Nick and Jess with their relationship".'

In an interview with E! News, fellow exec producer Brett Baer added: 'He's right in the middle of trying to help [Nick and Jess] work through some stuff and it's amazing. His thing was all about getting to Jess and trying to bring out this inner part of her that hadn't been brought to the forefront.’

'The word hip tips was sort of a thing. He put it, "I think I can give her some hip tips".'

It would appear that celebrity appearances on cult US TV shows are becoming A Thing: there’s also talk on the grapevine that Victoria Beckham could make a cameo appearance on Girls.
