The title of this year's ball and the exhibition that it is celebrating is the snappy 'American Women: Fashioning A National Identity' so expect most of the fashion industry's stars to be decked out in America's top designers.And all eyes will be on Sarah Jessica Parker who, having become a New York icon thanks to her role as Carrie Bradshaw, was asked to provide the voice over for the exhibition.
The event has been sponsored by a high street brand for the first time this year, all-American favourite Gap. The brand already champions emerging designers by teaming up with them on capsule collections (remember lusting after the Alexander Wang offerings last year?) and for the gala it has asked Thakoon , Sophie Theallet , Alexander Wang and Rodarte to design dresses especially for some of the guest. Slated to be stepping out in the collaborative creations? M.I.A., Natalie Portman and Jessica Alba .
Oprah Winfrey has been lined up to host the ball and according to WWD she is to be dressed by Oscar de la Renta .
And model Doutzen Kroes is set to arrive on the arm of Zac Posen - she tweeted over the weekend, 'Had a fitting for the Met Ball, so excited, Zac Posen is designing it!'
