‘We named the New Jersey Nets the Brooklyn Nets,’ Jay-Z, who owns a stake in the NBA team, announced in front of the team’s new Brooklyn stadium site on Monday.
The rapper and Rocawear owner is working with Nets executives and Adidas to create uniforms that pay tribute to the team’s new home in New York, the New York Post reported. Owners are currently tinkering with a new logo, which they promise will feature Brooklyn prominently, and determining which colours the new uniforms will incorporate.
Not that Jay-Z’s involvement is limited to apparel. In what must surely stand as one of the only cases of a sports investor inaugurating his team’s new stadium with a blockbuster concert, Jay-Z will launch the Barclays Center with a series of shows in September 2012. We’re sure Beyonce and Baby-Z will be front and centre.
