It may have been raining in LA but the sun was shining on 12 Years A Slave, Dallas Buyers Club and Gravity last night - the three big success stories at the 86th Annual Academy Awards.

Steve McQueen's true-story epic about slave Solomon Northup scooped the coveted statuette for Best Film and earned newcomer Lupita Nyong'o - who was also one of the red carpet's biggest success stories in a pale blue Prada gown - the award for Best Supporting Actress.

Alberto Curaón took Best Director for Gravity, which also won a slew of awards for its striking special effects, while Matthew McConaughey and a gorgeous, Saint Laurent-clad Jared Leto did the double, with Dallas Buyers Club earning them Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor nods respectively. Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for her role in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine.

The riotous ceremony, which was expertly hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, also featured pizza (Brad Pitt handed out the plates - swoon), Pharrell's hat and a history-making selfie. And, of course, Jennifer Lawrence fell over. No, really.

Every award you need to know about is below. And don't miss those unbelievable red carpet dresses - they're all here.
