If you’ve seen the trailer for Luhrmann’s Great Gatsby remake, chances are you’ve been as mesmerised by the costumes as by the drama and relationship dynamics evident even in just the 2.5-minute spot.

Raising the film’s fashion credibility even further is news that none other than Miuccia Prada supplied some of the costumes.

Catherine Martin, Luhrmann’s wife and costume designer, selected 40 dresses from and archives to adapt for the film, Fashionista reported.

‘I usually try not to literally reference periods in my work, because that’s not the way I think,’ Prada said. ‘But when I worked on the costumes, I realized how many pieces could become very 1920s with a little intervention and another point of view.’

Prada also designed Gatsby star Carey Mulligan’s gown for her April wedding to Marcus Mumford.

The Italian designer joins fellow costume collaborators Tiffany, which supplied jewellery inspired by the era, and Brooks Brothers, the official men’s costumier.

If only we didn’t have to wait until summer 2013 to see their work onscreen... Until then, watch the trailer below.
