She already sets the trends that move thousands of units of fashion-forward pieces (fishnet cycling shorts, anyone?), but soon, Rihanna will have a new designer to credit during public appearances—herself.

The singer and fashion risk-taker has signed on to create her first fashion collection with River Island, in the works now for a spring 2013 launch.

‘I’ve been wanting to design my own collection for some time,’ Rihanna said in a statement. ‘River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family run business also really appealed to me.

‘I find London really inspiring and River Island loves to have fun with clothes. I’m looking forward to working with them and creating something really special.’

Rumours of retail collaborations have followed Rihanna since 2010, when she tweeted about going out to lunch in Barbados with Topshop boss Sir Philip Green. She’s a certified fan of the London fashion scene—although Rihanna wears designer goods from the likes of Stella McCartney and Alexander Wang to red-carpet events, she is often spotted shopping in Topshop and River Island during trips to London.

‘As soon as we started to work together we knew this was a perfect fit,’ River Island CEO Ben Lewis said in a statement. ‘Rihanna will be designing the collection and we will be sharing our fashion experience with her to develop a range her fans will love.’
