Apparently there is not much that can shock Sheridan Smith – the petite blonde actress who has won accolades for her stage performances and is currently wowing ITV’s viewership in Mrs Biggs. But when it came to her ELLE interview, we managed to make her blush.

‘I’ve gone really red!’ the actress said as interviewer Craig McClean spoke to her about her upcoming role in Hysteria – a film about the invention of the vibrator that sees her being pleasured by Rupert Everett with a prototype contraption. ‘It’s the one bit I’m embarrassed thinking that my mum and dad are going to watch, but it was really good fun.’

Talking about her on screen climax, she joked that she had to find a different approach to one of cinema’s most infamous orgasm scene. ‘It’s quite different from the When Harry Met Sally orgasm!’ she laughed. ‘It’s set in the 19th century for a start...’

However this is not all that Sheridan has on the horizon. She will star in the Dustin Hoffman directed ‘Quartet’ early next year and is currently treading the boards at the Old Vic Theatre in Hedda Gabler for which she is winning praise from critics and audiences alike. With this on top of her ITV show, Sheridan is a talent that everyone should watch.

Mrs Biggs is on ITV1, Wednesdays at 9pm. Hysteria is in cinemas from Friday 21 Setpember 2012.
