New York singer Sky Ferreira first burst onto the music scene a couple of years ago with a jarring pop track called One. Apparently abandoning the bubblegum pop of her initial sound, Sky has now released a video for her new single Red Lips with a much more grungy sound.

Directed by photographer Terry Richardson, the video sees Sky cavort with a tarantula and takes the idea of being playful with make-up to the extreme by rubbing lipstick all over her face.

With a new sound that is heavier than her debut, it seems Sky is growing up for her upcoming album release - and she has been working with punk/grunge queen Shirley Manson of Garbage on her new material to help her find her new direction. As for a face full of red lipstick, it’s not a trend we see catching on. “It’s a statement,” ELLE’s Deputy Beauty Editor, Georgia Collins says. “but I wouldn’t recommend for everyday looks”. Quite.

Sounds Like: Garbage, Shirley Manson, Hole

Releasing When?: A full album is hotly anticipated for the end of this year
