The highlight of the American football season typically interests us not for any sporting reasons, but for its cleverer-than-usual adverts and ‘what will they do next?’ halftime shows. The halftime show is where Janet’s nip slipped in 2004, where MIA upstaged Madonna’s MDNA comeback in 2012, and, by the sound of it, where Beyonce will run the world, all over again, in 2013.

The official announcement isn’t expected until Wednesday, but a source told the Associated Press that the superstar will perform at the 3 February event.

Beyonce sang the national anthem at the 2004 Super Bowl, but this is her first halftime show. It could set a new record as Beyonce’s biggest audience—last year’s show attracting 114 million viewers, making the Super Bowl bigger than the Grammys and bigger than Glastonbury. It’s even bigger than the show in Sao Paulo, Brazil that the singer called, ‘probably my biggest performance ever in history’.

Something tells us she can handle it. Plus, football players seem to love ‘Single Ladies’, if Glee is a reliable source of information. NFL: Make it happen!
